Hello, everybody, and welcome to Episode Two of the Tipsy Unicorns podcast. This season we are focusing on origin stories. Today, I am going to share with you the origin story of Our Alaskan Oasis. Today I am sitting on Our Alaskan Oasis. We are in Naukati Bay, Alaska, which as I shared last time is located in Lingít Aaní the traditional homelands of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people.
This is where my husband and I have four acres of property that will one day be a therapeutic wellness retreat. For today, it is a hunting tent on a platform in which we live while we're building our dreams very slowly, but very surely as we go. While our big ultimate dream is for this to be a therapeutic wellness retreat, we have to start somewhere, we have to start small.
This year, we're starting with Phase 1 of Our Alaskan Oasis, which is a Just Learning Center. It is located at the intersection of Empowerment and Educational Justice. Our motto is "We're about more than just learning". This is a place where we will provide families with a supportive homeschool experience. These are families that live in rural Alaska, who have been pushed out of the system. So much so that the school here is going to be shutting down because they're not able to completely meet the needs of the families and the students.
We are going to be supporting them by helping them with their schedule, giving them access to direct instruction curriculum, coaching them on how to become literacy coaches themselves, providing literacy coaching services, and really pouring into this community something that they have been needing for a really long time, which is love and hope. There is so much greatness and so much potential in this community. We're really excited to help them take the next steps into creating something that is for them and by them. Truly community-driven and grassroots based.
I am really looking forward to sharing this journey with you. If you are inspired by the work that we're doing and you want to get involved I welcome you. Please, please, please come join us on Mondays at 5pm Alaska time which is 6pm Pacific time and 9pm Eastern or you can join us on Fridays at 9am Alaska time, which is 10am Pacific time and 1pm Eastern. These are the times where we're gathering our resources. We're bringing people together. We're engaging in collaborative problem solving and storytelling.
I am so grateful to every one of my Tipsy Unicorns out there, and my Thoughtful Krakens. I love you all so much, and I am so forever grateful to you all for blessing me with your support. If it were not for you all a year and a half ago, putting your faith in me and the Action for a Peaceful World mission that we put out there in the hopes that we would build this community, I don't know where we'd be. Now, it's becoming that and so much more. My heart is full and overflowing with gratitude. I can't even begin to articulate what you all mean to me. You power me up. You give me the fuel that I need to keep going. So thank you all so much for your support. I look forward to hearing from you.
If you aren't able to join us on Mondays or Fridays, please, please, please check out My Calendly and book a time to meet with me. I actually had one of our community members reach out this weekend and say, "Hey, I'm ready. I'm ready to get my Tipsy Unicorn on. I've got an idea that I want to share with you!" So we set up that we set up a time for tomorrow.
We have another one of our Thoughtful Kraken who is learning how to use the Standard Celeration Chart (SCC). That's what we're going to be talking about on Monday August 8th - learning how to use the SCC for personal management. Come join us! Get excited!
I look forward to seeing you all there. Love you all. Bye
If you're not able to join us live, schedule a time to meet with Mystra one-on-one to discover how you can best support our mission.
