The second course in the CWB 2020 series is all about applying the science of behavior and learning to improve your work life.

This course will teach information and skills related to:

  • Behavioral Systems Analysis
  • Effective Collaboration
  • Simple Behavioral Improvements
  • Strategic Professional Planning
  • Related Ethical Obligations
  • Diagnostic Feedback

In this 9-week course, you will learn a set of skills related to improving your work life and earn 18 Type-2 "Learning" CEUs (12 general, 3 ethics, and 3 supervision). The skills are drawn from the work of Gleb Tsipursky (Never Go With Your Gut), Maria Malott (The Paradox of Organizational Change), and Mark Smutny (THRIVE), and you will learn how to systematically apply the lessons you learn to accomplish your professional goals, in the service of your values, on the path toward your dream career.

Making Effective Business Decisions (2 CEU's)

Identify the situations in which bad decisions are commonly made and strategies to prevent them.
Identify the errors in judgment that often result from reflexive behaviors associated with loss aversion.

Differentiate between attributing behaviors to internal versus external variables.
Define actions necessary to prevent judgment errors related to avoiding uncomfortable discussions.
Analyze the risks associated with overconfidence during the decision making process.

Develop an organizational framework and define the measurement system for each component.
Create and explain a department-function analysis. Use results of discrepancy analysis to identify areas of needed improvement.
Complete a detailed analysis of a process within an organization.
Analyzing the Function of Behaviors in the Workplace (2 CEU's)

Write examples of indirect-acting contingencies involving various consequences.
Discuss the connection between task analyses and functional assessments of behavior.
Conduct a functional assessment of a frequently-occurring issue in the workplace.

Describe contingencies currently in place in the workplace used to change various behaviors.
Identify new contingencies that may be more effective at changing various behaviors more efficiently.
Write the rationale for each step of the behavioral systems engineering model.
Setting the Stage for Effective Collaboration (2 CEU's)

Define rules and norms for effective collaboration within a defined context.
Develop a meeting agenda development checklist for an organization or department.
Discuss the process for accurately matching the environmental structure of the meeting to the specific function of the meeting.
Facilitating Collaborative Meetings Effectively (2 CEU's)

Objectives:
Discuss strategies for facilitating various types of meetings.
Practice facilitating meetings related to strategic planning and organizational change.
Write an accurate summary of meeting proceedings in the service of effective collaboration outside of structured meetings.
